Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn signed a bill Thursday enabling Nevada to be the first state to offer gambling on the Internet.

The new law directs state regulators to draft rules that would govern Internet gambling. It also sets up licensing and fee requirements.

The process of establishing a set of license requirements could take a year or longer, said state officials, who also promised Nevada law would not defy a federal ban on online gaming.
