CALIFORNIA COMMISSION COULD LOSE AUDIT POWER

Jun 23, 2001 8:29 PM

A vote yesterday by a powerful legislative committee eliminates California’s new gambling commission from keeping track of the number of slot machines in Indian casinos.

In response to pressure from tribes, the panel decided to eliminate the requirement that Indian casinos had to disclose the number of slots reserved in confidential draws.

The committee’s decision needs both houses’ approval before any action is taken.
