The California Senate approved funding for the newly formed California Gambling Control Commission. The commission had run out of money in January and asked the Legislature for assistance.

The commission is in charge of regulating gambling throughout California, including American Indian casinos. The measure, Assembly Bill 66, passed on a 27-9 vote. Commission chairman John Hensley stated, “All that bill does is pay the bills.”
