New York and the Seneca Indian Nation plan to open two casinos in Niagara Falls and Buffalo. The New York governor and the state legislature have been pressured by business interests to bring casino gambling to the Niagara Falls-Buffalo.

“Theses casinos will provide a major boost to the economy of western New York by allowing us to compete with our Canadian neighbors,” said Gov. George Pataki.

Before the projects can proceed, they must be ratified by a referendum by members of the Seneca Nation, state legislation, and federal approval of the sites. The New York governor and Seneca President are confident the conditions for the casinos will be met.
