Check out the better odds at ‘M’
Football season is finally here and with it the ever popular parlay cards. I love parlay cards and play them on a weekly basis, but you have to have a few rules if you want some kind of shot at winning.
First of all, I look for the best payoffs then make sure to read the rules and stick with a half-point card or a ties-win card.
I stopped at several Las Vegas books this past week looking for parlay cards. I found a ties lose card in two spots and a half-point card at the "M" Resort, which is located just past the Silverton with easy access to the book.
What amazed me most between the two cards were the payoffs – if they had been reversed I just may have taken a shot at the ties lose card.
But the payoffs were so out of whack, I simply couldn’t believe my eyes.
For example, on the ties lose card, hitting 4-for-4 paid 10-for-1; on the half-point card at the "M" the same 4 for 4 paid a more realistic 13-for-1.
I love to play 6-team parlays and differences on the two cards were incredible: on the ties lose card, catching 6-for-6 paid 35 for 1; on the half point card at "M" Resort, it paid 52 for 1 – now that is one huge difference and it makes the drive down the road worth it!
We had a lot of winners last week in pre-season games, especially on Saturday. Say, you could have cashed in one of those 6-team parlays over at the "M."
That’s ancient history. Let’s look for some winners in NFL preseason week No. 3.
Thursday, Aug. 27
Jaguars at Eagles 4 pm: This is a tough game as there are good trends for both teams. The Jags are 9-3-1 ATS on the road and the Eagles are 7-2 ATS off a loss. If I had to play I would take a shot at PhilLy if the line is -3 or less.
Rams at Bengals 4:30 pm: Cincy beat the Pats at New England last week 7-6, while the Rams just did not look good in their home loss to the Falcons.
Dolphins at Buccaneers 5 pm Fox TV: In the battle for the domination of Florida both teams have been playing well. The Bucs have been putting points on the board for their new head coach but I believe it will stop here. Miami has been awesome in preseason since Tony Sparano took over. DOLPHINS
Friday, Aug. 28
Patriots at Redskins 5 pm: Pats have won one game in preseason the past two years and lost at home last week while only scoring six. The Skins are coming off a big confidence booster win over the Steelers but were in a good spot for that win. I see the Pats bouncing back here and getting the win over the Skins. PATRIOTS
Packers at Cardinals 7 pm: As we stated in last week’s column, the Packs like to play over the total in preseason and they continued that trend last week. The Cards were just pitiful last week at home and look to rebound in a big way in this week #3 as they attempt to get their game ready for the real thing. CARDS AND OVER THE TOTAL
Saturday, Aug. 29
Colts at Lions 10 pm: I would love to take a shot with the Lions in this game but just cannot pull the trigger. The Colts have gone 5-1 SU and 4-1-1 ATS in week three the past six years.
Saints at Raiders 1 pm: Are the Saints on a mission? We will find out this week as they play their second straight road game. They have showed improved defense and their usual good offense. All systems go for another big effort. SAINTS
Titans at Browns 4:30 pm: Titans have been super in dog role the past few years in preseason going 10-3 ATS. TITANS
Bills at Steelers 4:30 pm: The word from a close contact in Pittsburgh is that Big Ben is a-ok and that Pittsburgh will win in front of a sold-out crowd this week in the "Burg." STEELERS
Ravens at Panthers 5 pm: Without knowing the final of the Monday night game between the Ravens and Jets I would suggest betting the under in this game as Baltimore has gone 9-3 under, not counting Monday’s game, in their last 11 preseason games. UNDER
Jets at Giants 5 pm: G-Men, humiliated by the Bears last week, will rebound with a big effort at the Jets. GIANTS
Seahawks at Chiefs 5 pm: Coach Jim Mora of the Seahawks looks to have his team playing like they want a post season game as they have two solid wins so far. SEAHAWKS
49ers at Cowboys 5 pm: Cowboys stay undefeated in their new stadium. COWBOYS
Chargers at Falcons 5 pm CBS: Since Norv Turner has been in charge the Chargers have gone 3-0 as a dog and 3-1 ATS as a visitor. CHARGERS
Sunday, Aug. 30
Bears at Broncos 5 pm CBS: Look for the Bears to show up big time in this big game as Lovie Smith lets his top gun Jay Cutler loose. BEARS
Monday, Aug. 31
Vikings at Houston 5 pm ESPN
Will Bret get the Vikes to the promised land – I doubt it! Texans at home on Monday night looks like a good bet. TEXANS
I have a ton of great college bets ready to release next week so don’t miss that issue of GamingToday.
Next week I will also cover a few "must enter" football contests.
