Something for every fan in Vegas joints

This is it! The NFL is here and so are the contests, and a full week of parlay cards. If you want an early parlay card shoot out to the "M" on Tuesday and get your feet wet.

If you like football, slots and food, stop at Dean’s Place, which is on Dean Martin Blvd., across from the Silverton poker room. If you are free this Friday, I may be out at Dean’s around 4 p.m. with the all-knowing Sid Diamond. We may have a few gems for this week’s NFL action.

So stop by, have a drink, sign up for the contest – 25 bucks – and get a free Sunday brunch for the 17-week NFL season.

Just thinking about that brunch gets me hungry. Another place for great food, if you like hot dogs, is Planet Hollywood, where David Snock, manager of race and sports, is offering "eat the pink vig" every Monday during the NFL season. Just go into the sports book and you can bet any NFL game and lay -105, including that Monday’s game, then walk over to Pink’s Hot Dogs and they will give you 20% off the price of one of their pink dogs. Incidentally, if you like hot dogs, you’ll love Pink’s!

Speaking of dogs, let’s get down to my early NFL and college plays.

Colleges

Thursday, Sept. 10

Clemson +4 ½ at Georgia Tech 4:45 pm ESPN TV: Must side with the Tigers in this game as Georgia Tech has gone 0-5 ATS in a game the week before they play Miami (Florida) and they have the Canes on deck. CLEMSON +4½.

Saturday, Sept. 12

East Carolina +6 at West Virginia 9 am: Big revenge for WVU as they lost last year’s game 24-3 at East Carolina. Last week the Pirates just got by Appalachian State 29-24. WEST VIRGINIA -6.

Iowa -6½ at Iowa State 9:30 am: Iowa was life and death to defeat Northern Iowa last week 17-16, blocking an extra point at the end of the game; Iowa State at home plus the points looks good. IOWA STATE +6½ (BUY TO +7).

Notre Dame -4½ at Michigan 12:30 pm ABC-TV: This will be a titanic battle but this is not the same Wolverines team that got hammered last year in South Bend 35-17, the crowd will be deafening and Michigan will be super fired up, take the points and make a bet on the money line. MICHIGAN 4½ and money line.

TCU -11 at Virginia 4 pm: The Cavaliers were a hard team to figure last year, getting crushed one week and then playing great the next, but we will have to wait and see. In the meantime we will take a shot with TCU as Virginia could not handle William & Mary last week, losing 26-14. TCU.

Air Force +4½ at Minn. 4 pm: Falcons cruised last week 72-0, while the Gophers were lucky to get the win in OT at Syracuse; wrong favorite in this game. AIR FORCE. +4½

USC -6 ½ at Ohio State 5 pm: After watching these two teams play last week you would think this game is a no-brainer to go with USC, but I say NO! And not just because I am a big Buckeye fan; I hope all the money comes on USC and we can take +7 with Ohio State at home in what is their game of the year. OHIO STATE +6½ ( BUY TO +7)
