What an interesting, exciting opening football weekend. The very first game goes to overtime as the champion Steelers squeak by with a 3-point victory. They got the win, but the bookmakers got the money. As advertised, last week the line went from 5 to 7 points in some places.

Do you believe in miracles? Well, Baltimore bettors certainly do as the Ravens go for a score while they are supposed to run out the clock to cover. Even the winners will admit they didn’t deserve it.

How about the rekindling of Franco Harris’ immaculate reception? Surely the Broncos’ receiver, Brandon Stokley, who caught a deflection with 20 seconds to go, to score a TD, and deprive the new look Bengals of a sure victory, was a new classic example of divine intervention.

Adrian Peterson, the super duper of all running backs, proved why he was the first pick of thousands of fantasy football fans. If you had him on your team and didn’t win this week you deserve a recount, as he amassed 180 yards on 25 carries and scored three TDs.

Well, that’s enough excitement for one week, so let’s look forward, instead of backward and recounting your woulda, shoulda, coulda.

The Thursday night special features Georgia Tech at Miami, Florida. I like the favorite laying 4½ points.

On Friday I like the dog at home to Boise State plus 7½ points. Fresno State played home standing Wisconsin to an OT game before succumbing to a 3-point loss as an 8-point dog.

Here are a few pros. Atlanta -6½ points against a Carolina team that just doesn’t look ready to win.

Arizona should rebound from a poor effort last week and is getting 5 points from Jacksonville to become a live underdog.

The Colts on Monday night, laying 3½ points to a punchless Miami team looks like a steal. Go get ’em Payton!

Have a great week!
