With nearly every political leader in the state signing on, Massachusetts appears on the verge of approving expanded gambling with legislation expected to pass within the next two months.

The positive route for casino legislation became obvious last week when House Speaker Robert DeLeo told an audience of businessmen that he had become convinced that casinos would be the best way to generate more state revenue.

Previously, DeLeo leaned toward authorizing slot machines for the state’s racetracks.

DeLeo has now joined Gov. Deval Patrick and Senate President Therese Murray in supporting casinos.
