Major League Baseball:

Detroit at Minnesota -160: While the baseball playoffs are scheduled to begin tomorrow (Wednesday), they actually begin today with the play-in game for the AL Central. Minnesota is the hot team, winning 16 of their last 20 games to catch the Tigers, who have won only 11 of their last 26 games. Moreover, the Twins won 11 of 18 contests with the Tigers this season, and did even better at home in the Metro Dome with a 7-2 mark. The Twins send out their best pitcher, Scott Baker, who turned around a 2-6 start by compiling a 13-3 record since June with an ERA of 3.63. Detroit’s Rick Porcello had a somewhat reverse record, starting on fire at 8-4, but winding up the season with a mediocre 6-5 mark since late June. The Twins will be tough here and could actually do some damage in post season play. Minnesota Twins -160

College football:

Middle Tennessee State at Troy -7: Even though Troy started the season slowly (it doesn’t help to play No. 1 Florida), they are expected to dominate the Sun Belt Conference like they have in recent campaigns. Middle Tennessee, however is vastly improved and fields their best team in coach Rick Stockstill’s tenure (four years). They stole a win at Maryland as a big underdog, and overran Memphis, 31-14. Their single loss was to ACC power, Clemson, 37-14. Even though they have lost three straight to Troy, Middle Tennessee should be in this game to the end. The rivalry meeting, called the "World’s Largest Toga Party," should be an exciting affair – including the actual game! Middle Tennessee State +7
