One of my favorite teaser players who only bets teasers and nothing else, "teaser Tom Noonan," had some advice as he was cashing his ticket – never tease a favorite down and leave a hook on the ticket as it will come back and bite you.
What "teaser Tom" is trying to say is if a game is -9½ don’t tease it down to -3½. Play a 6½ point teaser and bring it down to -3. If you are teasing the dog up, do the opposite and get the hook on your side as you try and take +3½, +7½, +14½ and so on. Thanks for the good advice, Tom.
The Breeders’ Cup is right around the corner and yours truly will be doing a BC seminar at Palace Station along with Palace Station horse guru Vic Vivio and Race Day Las Vegas’ Ralph Siraco, who always comes up with some great insight.
This is a must go not only for the seminar but the big chief Zack Goldberg as he always does things right; he will be giving out free pizza and cocktail service in the race book. Zack will also have a drawing after the seminar and give away a $150 comp to the Broiler.
Steubenville’s Big Red won last week and extended its regular season win streak to 68 straight. This week the Inkster Michigan Vikings roll into town with their highly touted QB Devin Gardner who has already committed to Michigan. The Big Red "D" will have to be at their best.
This past week was a very good week with the picks, let’s see if we can keep it up.
Wednesday, Oct. 21
Tulsa -7 at UTEP: This looks like a good spot for El Paso getting seven points, they were destroyed by Tulsa last year 77-35, they lay in wait. UTEP +7
Saturday, Oct. 24
Georgia Tech -4½ at Virginia: This game looks like a solid play to start Saturday as GT has played back-to-back huge games. The Cavaliers seem to be putting it all together going 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in their last four games. VIRGINIA +4½
Vanderbilt +11 at South Carolina: This will be a bet against not as much as a bet on as Vandy just can not score, as they are averaging just ten points a game in their last three and one of those games was a loss to Army. SOUTH CAROLINA -11
Boston College +10 at Notre Dame: The beads will be moving fast in this game, the Irish are off a hard fought loss to USC while BC had an easy time of it with NC ST, these games between these two schools have notoriously been close, the points look great. BOSTON COLLEGE +10
Oregon -7 at Washington: We will stay on the Ducks roll as they have won and covered their last four games and a win here and a win next week over USC could light up the BC standings. OREGON -7
Texas -14 at Missouri: I originally had Mizzu circled in my schedule book in this game but after watching them in their last two games they are just not that good. Texas is coming off a hard hitting gut wrenching win over Oklahoma. TEXAS -14
AIR FORCE +9 at UTAH: There will be a total on this game, just go out and bet in early as it can only come down. The Falcons have played under in their last four games and one even went into OT. Utah is not a scoring machine either and they have gone under in their last three games. UNDER THE TOTAL
Idaho +13 at Nevada: We will ride the Vandal’s streak as they have covered all seven of their games this year and six of those came as dogs. They look to gain some respect from last year’s humiliating loss 49-14. IDAHO +13
Arkansas +5 at Mississippi: This is just a great spot for "Ole Miss" as the Razorbacks are coming off that nasty loss at Florida 23-20. MISSISSIPPI -5
Arizona State +7 at Stanford: The Sun Devils continue to play low as they have now played under in all of their games that a total was listed. UNDER THE TOTAL
49ers +4 at Texans: Good spot to take the points as the 49ers got the bye week off a crushing loss, look for them to return rested and strong. By the way, in NFL a team off a loss and bye week is a very high percentage play, per top handicapper Ron Fortune. 49ERS +4
Saints -7 at Dolphins: Just a great spot for the fish as they catch the Saints off a trouncing win over the Giants, they may come in here just a little over confident. DOLPHINS +7
Cardinals +6½ at Giants: I will start early and make parlays and teasers all ending up on the Giants. They come off a humiliating loss and now are home and the fans will be rousing Sunday night on National TV. If you don’t hear from me next week I will be watching this game at the airport bar, if they lose I will use my ticket to Pittsburgh and hitch a ride to the "ville."
