Globetrotters interested in downtown?

The Harlem Globetrotters have joined talks on a Downtown sports arena.

With the Globetrotters on board, the arena appears to be moving closer to reality, Mayor Oscar Goodman said. Goodman added that the latest plans also envision a Globetrotter museum on the site.

Sports industry experts say single-use arenas rarely turn a profit, so the addition of Globetrotter basketball and unspecified financial support could be crucial to getting Leasure’s $60 million venture of the ground.

Officials for the Globetrotters could not be reached. But speaking of the arena, one city official told GamingToday, “It’s going to happen.’’
