Charlie Weis running out of excuses

There are a few things that I would like to spend a few lines on; first, for you Notre Dame fans in South Bend: The Gipp has left the building and now all you need is for Charlie Weiss to leave Notre Dame Stadium and just maybe George Gipper will return.

This Tuesday, ESPN will be airing a documentary featuring Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, real name Jimmy Synodinos, legendary bookmaker born in Steubenville, Ohio in 1919. He lived right up the street from my grandparents’ house and I crossed paths with him many times including a very cool ride on the elevator in the Galt House on Derby Day when he actually told me who he liked.

Horses may not have been his game but I still have the losing ticket. He did know as much about making lines and betting underdogs as anyone. This is a very good show and well worth watching. Jimmy died of a heart attack in Vegas on April 21, 1996 and is buried in historic Union Cemetery in Steubenville Ohio.

Just another mention about Steubenville as ex-Big Red QB Zack Collaros who led the Big Red to a 15-0 perfect season and a State Championship continued playing big time football as he led the undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats to a 47-45 victory completing 29 if 37 passes with no interceptions and also running for 75 yards.

The big BC seminar at Palace Station was a huge success as we packed the house; Palace Station’s Vic Vivio and Race Day Las Vegas host Ralph Siraco were great. I was my usual joyful self and even plucked a few winners, including the BC mile winner Furthest Land who paid $44.60, if you did not attend don’t miss it next time.

Now let’s see if we can get some winners for the upcoming week.

Saturday, Nov.14

Northwestern +4½ at Illinois 9 am: Just don’t see the Wildcats getting up for this game off big win over Iowa and now must stay on the road and play at Illinois who has come alive. ILLINOIS -4½

Idaho +28 at Boise State 12:30 pm (time change): Vandals were on a roll early but now have dropped two out of three straight up and have now gone 0-3 ATS in those three games. The Broncos are home on the blue rug and on a mission as they are taking no prisoners as they march to a 13-0 season. BOISE ST -28

Notre Dame +7 at Pittsburgh 5 pm (time change): Irish may be very happy to get out of town but the ghost of the Gipper is in a tizzy. The Panthers could easily be undefeated going into this game but they let one slip away at NC State. PITTSBURH -7

Arizona State +17 at Oregon 12:30 pm: Ducks roll came to an end last week but Sun Devils amazing roll of under’s continued as they have played all listed board games under the total this year, we will continue to bet this trend and they do catch Oregon in a funk. UNDER

Missouri +2 at Kansas State 9:30 am (time change): Prefer laying the small number with the Wildcats as they get a down Tiger team coming off loss at Baylor. KANSAS STATE -2

Texas A&M +18 at Oklahoma 4 pm (time change): Sooners goose may be cooked and just don’t see them covering this big number against a team that can put some points on the board, they have Texas Tech and Oklahoma State next, yep their goose is cooked. TEXAS A&M +18

Wyoming +5½ at San Diego State 7 pm: You always need a get out game and this is it, Wyoming has scored a total of 10 points in their last three games and may be beat up after playing BYU last week. The Aztecs have some scoring punch and look to get some revenge from last years 35-10 loss. SAN DIEGO STATE -5½

NFL QUICK PICKS

TITANS -6½

CHARGERS -2½

PATRIOTS +3
