NFL football:

Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers -3½ (total 43½ ): The NFL kicks off its Thursday Night Football series with, well, a clunker, as they two teams are both spiraling out of playoff contention. But someone has to win, and because they’re at home we give the nod to San Francisco. In fact, they blew their last game against Tennessee after leading 17-10 at the half, when Alex Smith three interceptions, including a killer pick-six late in the fourth quarter when the 49ers trailed 27-20. Tonight, expect the Bears to get a heavy does of Frank Gore, which should set up some passing lanes for Smith and their new wide-out, Michael Crabtree, who should get his first TD pass of the season tonight. Remember how Kurt Warner torched the Bears’ defense last week, though ‘Frisco doesn’t have the prolific passing game that the Cardinals have. Chicago has won just one of four road contests (at Seattle), and they look like they will have their hands full with San Francisco tonight. San Francisco 49ers -3 ½ with a lean to UNDER 43½.
