New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints -1 (total 57½ ): This line opened with the Saints a 3-point favorite a week ago, and the money has continued to pour in on the Patriots, knocking the line down to nearly a Pick’em. Just why remains a mystery. The Saints have done nothing but win every game, most of them by comfortable margins, but they’ve been able to come from behind when necessary. The Patriots are good, but they’re not the great team they once were. Their offenses are close statistically, though New Orleans has the slight edge in completions, completion percentage, yards per play, total yards and points per game. What’s more significant is their respective defenses: the Saints are the top team in the NFL in defending the pass – their defense has held opposing teams to a passer rating of a meager 57.8. The Patriots’ defense has held opponents to a rating of 73, a good stat, but not near the Saints number. Despite the downward trend in the point-spread, the Saints are the right side here and will finally show the skeptics that they belong in the "elite" status of NFL teams. New Orleans -1 and OVER the total of 57½
