Arizona Charlie’s West will help make the Del Mar meet more interesting with its Friday’s at Del Mar handicapping contest, which runs from July 20 through Aug. 31.

There is a $10 fee for each entry, and handicappers can enter as often as they like. Contestants must pick a quinella and an alternate, just in case of a late scratch. Selections are made from the first eight races at Del Mar.

Contestants accumulate points from the $2 mutuels. In the eighth race, double points will be awarded for the quinella. The most points scored at the end of the races will be the winner. The prizes to be awarded include first place, $1,200; second place, $500; and third place, $300.

“We have loyal handicappers here at Arizona Charlie’s and this is a fun way to get them involved in one more competition,” said Kitt Langvad, race and sports book manager. “It really adds to the excitement in the race book.”

Langvad added that Charlie Card members will receive double points for race wagers on Fridays during the contest.

Results will be posted one hour after the last race is official, and winners will have 24 hours to claim their prize money. If it is not collected, the money will be added to the next day’s pool.
