Reversing a national trend, Arlington Park reported that attendance and handle figures were up for the first 20 days of the meet compared to the same period in 2000.

Average daily attendance, 8,526, was up 12.6% and average handle, $722,453, was up 8.3%

For the 41-day Summer Festival, overnight purses have been increased to an average of about $275,000 a day.

”The progress Illinois racing made in 2000 has carried over into our 2001 meet,” said Arlington Park Chief Executive Officer Scott Mordell.
