Steve Wynn on Friday received county approval to begin the process of demolishing the 50-year-old Desert Inn to make way for a new project.

Just what the project could be is undetermined. Sources have said Wynn isn't close to building the new resort and its financing has yet to be arranged.

The Clark County Building Department issued Wynn’s company demolition permits, which allow Wynn to begin non-explosive demolition of the DI's low-rise buildings, including the DI's casino.
