The specter has been raised that the gaming industry in Atlantic City may experience an annual revenue decline for the first time in its 23-year history.

Casinos began the second half of the year down 2.5 percent in gross revenue, compared to the record-setting July last year.

The dozen casinos won $419.6 million from gamblers in July, a decline of $11 million over the same period last year. The industry has now reported declines in five of the seven months this year.
