SENECAS PRESS NY ASSEMBLY FOR VOTE

Aug 5, 2001 8:22 PM

The Seneca Nation of Indian leaders told Assembly Democrats in Albany that it's make or break time on legislation permitting three casinos in Western New York.

The Seneca representatives said they left the session frustrated that the Legislature's top Democrat would not give them a timetable for considering the legislation.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said, according to sources, that while the casino issue is important for Western New York, it is tied to a host of unrelated issues that are part of the unresolved budget talks. The Seneca leaders want the measure approved by the end of the week.
