Jazzy Michael Franks at Sunset

Jazz artist Michael Franks will perform at Sunset Station on Saturday.

Franks, a California native began playing guitar in high school. He developed an early love for the lyrics of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Johnny Mercer.

Since his 1976 debut, “The Art of Tea” included the classic hit “Popsicle Toes.”

Franks has produced 14 albums, turning a few good phrases. His break came in the early 70s when, through a friend’s father he was hired to score the film Zandy’s Bride.

His songs have been recorded by The Manhattan Transfer, Carmen McRae and Ringo Starr.
