College football, for the most part, takes a back seat to the NFL in terms of football contests in Las Vegas. And, Caesars Palace was quick to capitalize.

“The response to college football is great and we look for that trend to continue,” said Chuck Esposito, race and sports book director at Caesars Palace and the man overseeing operations at the member resorts under the Park Place umbrella.

Caesars will be the epicenter for the annual College Football 101 contest, which is also available at the Las Vegas Hilton, Bally’s, Paris/Las Vegas, Bally’s-Reno, the three Flamingo hotels (Las Vegas, Reno and Laughlin) and Caesars Tahoe.

The format is 20 games each week with each entrant having to choose 10 against the spread. The entry fee is $50 per person per entry, with each player allowed to enter five times.

“The top 20 finishers get to divide 100 percent of the total pool,” Esposito said. “Early signups will be eligible to win tickets to the Rose Bowl, site for the national championship game. That should be quite an attraction for our customers.”

Applications will be available at all the Park Place Entertainment Hotels in Nevada. The early signup deadline is Sunday, Aug. 26, with the final deadline five days later on Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. The top three contestants with the most points accumulated through Saturday, Oct. 13 will win three pairs of tickets to the Rose Bowl.

“We like to be considered the best as far as college football contests are concerned,” Esposito said. “Park Place has always recognized that there is a big market for college football betting and we wanted to take advantage of the interest. The Hilton has its big NFL contest, so we try to concentrate on this.”
