Soon-to-open Palms adds to its management team

            The Palms Casino Resort, the Maloof Family’s $265 million property under construction on Flamingo Road, has begun identifying members of its operating management team.

            Appointed director of marketing was Sheri Long who held a similar position with Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel/Casino. She previously did work for Palace Station and was vice president of account services for MMDS & Co. Advertising Agency.

            Rachael Morrow, a six-year employee of Caesars Palace, will hold forth as manager of reservations and VIP services. Prior to Caesars Palace, Morrow was a casino marketing representative at Monte Carlo Hotel/Casino.

            Veteran casino executive Michael A. Tomasello will be director of slots. He most recently was at Mikohn Gaming Inc. where he was a general manager of slot operations.

            And, Harris D. Okashige has been named executive chef for the property. His previous experience was gained at the Primm Valley Resorts, the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, and Bally’s Las Vegas.

            With construction moving along at an pace faster than anticipated, The Palms is expected to open in November.

            Executive changes have been announced within the Station Casinos Inc. (STN) organization, as well.

            According to Steve Cavallaro, executive vice president and COO, John J. James has taken over as vice president and general manager of the Fiesta Casino Hotel. He replaces Robert Finch, whose new duties are as vice president and general manager of Barley’s Casino & Brewing Co. in Henderson, Nev.

  Moving from Barley’s to the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino as assistant general is Brian Skagen.

            And, in another announcement, Cavallaro said Barry Mitchell has been named senior executive casino host at the Fiesta.

            Two executive appointments have been announced by Mandalay Resort Group (MBG) for its 50%-owned Monte Carlo Resort & Casino. They are Mark Sirianni as director of casino marketing, and Mauricio Cuellar as director of casino operations.

            At the Schadler Kramer Group Advertising Agency, Gary Brahl has been named creative director while Ellen Curtis is director of account management.
