WMS Industries, a major slot machine maker, said fiscal fourth-quarter profits before one-time items rose 22 percent from a year ago.
The improvement was based on a strong rise in the number of gaming machines installed. The Waukegan, Illinois-based company drew a net income of $3.2 million, compared to $11.3 million the previous year. Total revenues of $65.8 million were also below last year's $68 million figure.
The positive fourth-quarter results were driven by a 48 percent increase in participation games to 5,857 units as of June 30.
