Oct 17, 2001 1:47 AM

Las Vegas-based Global Sports & Entertainment, Inc. has joined forces with Playboy.com in a marketing agreement that shares web customers and provides sports and handicapping services to the men’s entertainment site.

Under the terms of the five-year co-marketing agreement, the companies will promote each other’s Web sites with Global Sports & Entertainment supplying Playboy.com with a variety of sports information content.

The content will be continuously updated and refreshed and focus primarily on betting odds and handicapping. In turn, Playboy.com will promote Global Sports & Entertainment and GSportsEDGE.com with banners and links on Playboy.com and PlayboyGaming.com, where visitors will have the opportunity to link directly to GSportsEDGE.com.

At the same time, Playboy.com will appear prominently on the Global Sports & Entertainment Web site where visitors will have the opportunity to link directly to Playboy’s Web site. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The joint venture represents another instance where gaming and entertainment companies have linked in a synergistic alliance.

“We are pleased to enter into an agreement with one of the world’s most popular and recognized brands,” said Wayne Allyn Root, chairman and CEO of Global Sports & Entertainment. “This co-branding opportunity will increase GSportsEDGE.com’s exposure within our core demographic and allow our brands to be partnered with the premier name in men’s entertainment.”

Root added that the alliance should result in additional customers moving back and forth between the two web sites, as well as provide Playboy.com with sports and handicapping content.

“By doing so, our business is certainly enhanced while Playboy.com realizes another opportunity to aggregate and monetize new or existing customers,” Root said. “We firmly believe this agreement will benefit the bottom-lines of both companies.”

Root’s company is America’s only publicly-traded sports handicapping company (Stock symbol: GSPE). The handicapper who was once in the Jim Feist stable also serves a Executive Producer and Host of the Global SportsEdge national TV show.

Root has also gained notoriety as a nationally-recognized author, business speaker, and celebrity guest on talk shows such as ABC’s Politically Incorrect, FOX News Network’s O’Reilly Factor and NBC’s Today Show.
