One New Hampshire county believes that establishing gaming is the solution to a struggling economy.

Berlin Mayor Robert Danderson said that casino gambling in Coos County is essential to avoid the permanent shutdown of Pulp and Paper of America.

"We can't survive on selling hikers brown bag lunches," Danderson said. "A casino in Berlin would be a boon to business in the region."

An opposing opinion came from state Sen. Clifton Below, D-Lebanon, who described slot machines as "the crack cocaine of gambling."
