MAN THE TORPEDOS! It’s full steam ahead for a tribe of Indians in East Texas. The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe is full speed ahead with casino plans despite a federal court ruling prohibiting gambling.

Tribe Chairman Kevin Battise: “In Texas there’s the lottery, bingo, horse racing and dog racing. We believe we’re legal to go forward with our casino plans. It is our sovereign right.”

Texas State Attorney General John Cornyn won a major round Sept. 27, when U.S. District Judge Garnett Thomas Eisele granted Texas a permanent injunction against the tribe trying to open up near El Paso. The ruling forces the tribe to close the casino by Nov. 30. He said all forms of casino gambling are illegal in Texas.
