NAVAJO NATION ON GAMBLING WARPATH

Nov 3, 2001 10:31 PM

The Navajo Nation Council has approved a gaming ordinance and a sales tax during its Fall Session held over four days in late October.

The Navajo Nation Gaming Ordinance is the first step towards the establishment of the group's first casino or the leasing of 1,400 slot machines in Arizona.

The gaming ordinance, manaded by the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, allows only the Tohajiilee Chapter to develop a gaming enterprise.
