Ernie’s, the venerable local club on North Rancho Drive, is getting new digs and a new name: the Wildfire Casino.
Along with the new name, the expanded casino is adding a sports book (including a walk-up window), its first five table games and 124 new slots, bringing the total to 220.
There’s also a new partner. Scott Nielson, general counsel with Station Casinos, has joined the Bauchman family that had previously purchased the property from Mel Wolzinger.
Word of the expanded casino attracted a flock of job applicants at a local job fair. Recruiters said they handed out 1,500 applications for 100 openings. When Wildfire is completed, the old Ernie’s will be razed.
