Dozen looks ‘Fairly Ridiculous’

Dec 11, 2001 6:13 AM

We are on safe ground saying that Duke will not be ranked No. 1 in college basketball’s Dirty Dozen.

Coach K has a lifetime deal in Durham and no wonder. The Blue Devils are the best team in the land. Too bad the success doesn’t carry over to football.

As for basketball, what better team to open as No. 1 than the one referred to in Jersey as Fairly Ridiculous.

Fairleigh Dickinson has opened the season 0-7 straight-up, which is deserving off top honors and insults.

How bad is FDU? Let us count the ways.

The Knights had scored 130 points against Sacred Heart and lost by 3!

The Knights played a schedule Georgetown would have coveted, and still lost. Among the opponents were Prairie View, Wagner, American and Hartford.

The rest of the opening week ratings run the gamut of total imperfection. From LIU (Long Island) in the East, to Idaho in the West, the battle for worst in America will be followed only on a need to know basis.

As in football, the focus is on these horrible teams as a means of finding a way for all of us to win money at the books.

If you are wondering who in the world IPFW is, it’s not part of the teamsters union.

IPFW stands for Indiana U. at Purdue-Fort Wayne. The team’s nickname is Mastodons.

Do we inform, or what!
