State gaming regulators in Carson City approved the planned merger between International Game Technology and Anchor Gaming.

IGT, based in Reno, has solidified its position as the industry's leader in gambling equipment with the addition of the Las Vegas-based Anchor.

The $1.4 billion-union first was announced in July, but was in doubt as federal regulators reviewed it for its competition-reducing implications.

IGT controls about 66 percent of the U.S. market for slot machines and is Nevada's largest publicly held company.
