Mandalay Bay has landed the top fight of 2002 with the super welterweight showdown between champions Oscar de la Hoya and Fernando Vargas.
"The fight should be no more than -120 or -130 either way," said John Avello, race and sports book director at Bally's/Paris Las Vegas. "It could go off even. Should be a great fight."
De la Hoya (34-2, 27 KO) is the WBC champion and regarded as boxing's Golden Boy. Vargas (22-1, 20 KO) holds the WBA version of the 154-pound title.
Both fighters lost to Felix Trinidad and could be in line for a rematch with a victory. The Vargas-de la Hoya bout is sure to be among the highest-grossing non heavyweight fights of all-time.
