Draw a ‘bead’ on The Rio!

Jan 22, 2002 3:56 AM
Everyone likes to get something for free, especially when they come to Las Vegas. One of the long lasting, always hot, fashion trends around town seems to be those colorful Mardi Gras type string bead necklaces we all see so many people wearing. To try and grab your share, here’s the latest list of current free bead offerings. If you’re really energetic, you can try to catch them as the entertainers and dancers toss them from the floats during the daily, free Masquerade Show in the Sky at the Rio. However, be forewarned that the audience can often get a little over enthusiastic and practically climb over each other in an attempt to grab them. But that’s all part of the fun! For an easier time of it, ending with the same bead results, head over to The Orleans or Suncoast, where they give them away when you sign up for their free slot club cards. If you already have a card, ask nicely at the change or slot booths and they will usually still give you a couple. Not to be left out, you can join the free bead party downtown as they hand them out in front of La Bayou, on Fremont Street, and the Plaza has reportedly been giving them out as well. Great souvenirs and the kids back home always love’em! The Fiesta’s (both locations on Rancho and in Henderson,) have reduced prices by $1 on their new Festival Buffets as a special, through the month of January. You can pick up lunch, Monday through Friday, for $5.99, (regular price $6.99,) or dinner on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday for $8.99, (regular price $9.99.) Fiestas have been tinkering with their buffets in a gallant effort to return them to the much-loved Festival Buffets of the pre-Stations days. For something a little more upscale, they both also offer a $9.99 king cut Prime Rib dinner special served in their respective steak houses. Dinner includes the entrée, soup or salad, vegetable and baked potato or rice and is served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly. Reservations suggested, but not always necessary. For “Young at Heart” (age 55 or older,) Prime Rewards slot club members at Sam’s Town, you can get a $2 discount on the Firelight lunch buffet during January. Stop by the slot club booth anytime this month for a sticker and your discount coupon. The sticker is free and no play or purchase is necessary to receive the discount coupon. Brings your price down to a cool $4.99 for one of the newer and nicer buffets in all of Las Vegas. Looking for some stress relief and relaxation at reduced prices? The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is currently offering a “locals only,” 20 percent off discount for all services at The RockSpa, through the month of January. The offer is valid for services Monday through Thursday and you must present a local identification to receive the discount. For more information, you can call the RockSpa at 693-5554, or check out their website at: www.hardrockhotel.com. Next week we’ll bring you some ideas on where you might want to enjoy the Superbowl Sunday festivities that fit right into a working man’s budget. Looks like some good parties are being planned! Until then”¦Eat well, play well, stay well.
