Day trips, excursions are ‘cheap’ diversions

How about a couple free side trip adventures and some free entertainment ideas this week? We promised a few good ones we would share this week for our “Cheap” readers, and that includes tourists as well as locals. Let’s start with a couple free bus trips to Laughlin.

Laughlin, of course, is a small gambling town located about 90 miles to the Southeast of Las Vegas, sitting on the edge of the beautiful Colorado River, on the very border of Arizona. But this small town doesn’t necessarily equate to the image of any small town across the US. There are a dozen or so top-rated Casino Hotels, perhaps more closely related to the appearance of Atlantic City. Many are within walking distance of each other.

Sightseeing Tours Unlimited, offers a free daily, (usually a morning and afternoon trip,) bus tour to Laughlin, sponsored by the Edgewater Hotel & Casino. The tour runs about six hours and includes a hotel fun book (coupons), free drinks, and even a free lunch or dinner buffet. They also usually include a free stop and short tour at the National Vitamin Factory. Sometimes even movies are shown on the bus trips! You can book a trip with them by calling (702) 471-7155. Usually one or two days notice is fine.

Guaranteed Tours also offers a similar free Laughlin bus trip, as well as a free trip to Primm, Nevada, (formerly known as, and sometimes still referred to as “Stateline.”) You’ll find three hotel casinos, Buffalo Bill’s, Primm Valley, and Whiskey Pete’s all located in Primm, as well as the world’s tallest roller coaster ride and an outlet mall nearby. Since they are located so near the California border, the tour also makes a stop at a California Lottery Ticket Store. You can reserve a free seat on the bus by calling (702) 369-1000 or (800) 777-4697. Primm tours also include a complimentary lunch buffet as well. By the way, Las Vegas locals are invited to participate in the free tours too. You usually just need to make arrangements to be picked up at one of their regular hotel route stops.

Doing Vegas “On The Cheap” is fun, but doing it free is even better! Catch a free comedy show this month at the Fiesta, (Rancho location,) on Fridays, February 15th or the 22nd. Shows are held in Roxy’s Theater at 7 and 9 p.m. and you can pick up the free tickets in advance at the Amigo Club slot promotions booth. John Manfrelotti appears on the 15th and Don Friesen on the 22nd. A free Robin Williams Tribute Show will be held Saturday, February 23rd. Same times, 7 and 9 p.m.

A final free show idea comes in at the Gold Coast this month.  Make sure you have “The Club” Gold Coast slot card with a KJUL radio station (1400 AM) sticker applied to your card. (They will offer you the sticker free for the asking at the slot club booth.)  KJUL members will get a shot at a free “Honky Tonk Angels” show on Monday night, February 25th, based on seats available. First come, first served, as I understand it. These three gals put on a heck of a tribute show, honoring country ladies, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. They even do a fun spoof on The Judds. If you miss the free show, buy a ticket sometime. These are three hard-workin’ girls and you’ll enjoy the show!

Until next week”¦Eat well, play well, stay well.
