Las Vegas is indeed showing that it's so much more than gaming.
Nevada casinos generated $18.1 billion, an increase of 3.1 percent over the 2000 figures, according to the state Gaming Control Board.
Gambling revenue of $9.3 billion accounted for 51.4 percent of the casinos total revenue number.
"The newest megaresorts have a wide variety of expensive restaurants, stores and entertainment options and these venues are capturing more of the casino customer's total spending," according to Control Board statistical analyst Frank Streshley.
Nearly half of the revenue collected was from suchh non-gambling operations as hotel rooms, food, beverages and entertainment.
