The thriving Connecticut casino-resorts continue to take away customers from Atlantic City without really trying.

High rollers at Foxwoods' Stargazer Casino atop the Grand Pequot Tower may spend as much as $10,000 on one hand of blackjack. Nearly 40,000 players roll into Foxwoods daily.

"We (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) have taken half of the New York market without even trying," Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman Kenneth Reels told the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin. "Gaming in New England is the place to be and where people choose to come. Atlantic City is old and not exciting and the area around the casinos is all run down.

The December slot revenue at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun totaled $1.5 billion. The average person spends between $150 and $200 during a day at Foxwoods, according to Bruce Kirchner, senior vice president for administration at Foxwoods.
