Saber’s helpful hints for Derby

Mar 19, 2002 5:45 AM

REPENT: Regular jock D’Amico canned in favor of superrider Bailey. Real good move in my opinion. Repent ran last Sunday in Louisiana Derby and somehow won by a slim nose at odds-on under a tremendous effort by J. Bailey. This guy has lugged in both starts this year. Don’t know what gives, but won’t get my support in Louisville. Bet against at a short price.

CAME HOME: Trained by Paco Gonzalez, a guy who can get a horse in peek form for a big race. This colt has a world of ability but has distance questions. His ability may overcome those concerns and get him home at 1¼ Derby distance. If Paco sends him to Kentucky, send in your money on Came Home. My play so far.
