Boyd Gaming Corporation (BYD) shuffled executives last week when Bob Boughner, senior executive vice president and COO elected to stay in New Jersey to help run The Borgata when it opens next year.

That left a vacancy that William Boyd, chairman and CEO, filled with Keith Smith, 40, who has been with the company for the past dozen years. Smith, who formerly held the title of executive vice president of operations, now becomes the company’s chief operating officer.

Commenting on the appointment, Boyd said, “ Keith has done an excellent job overseeing our operations for the past three years, and his promotion reflects our continued focus on building each of our 12 businesses and growing outside of new development opportunities.”

When Smith first donned Boyd pinstripes it was in the capacity of corporate controller. Boughner, a long-time Boyd employee, has held full responsibility for The Borgata, the $1.2 billion gaming resort destination the company is building in partnership with MGM MIRAGE Inc. (MGG).

Harry C. Hagerty, a former gaming industry investment banker, has been chosen by Park Place Entertainment Corp. (PPE) to replace departing Scott LaPorta as chief financial officer.

Hagerty, 41, spent 17 years on Wall Street including five years as the head of the gaming lodging groups for Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Inc., and BancBoston Robertson Stephens Inc.

Gerald Koslow has been promoted to chief financial officer at Shuffle Master Inc. (SHFL). He succeeds Gary Griffin who elected to remain at the company’s former location in Minnesota.

Christopher J. Fiumara has been named director of marketing for Green Valley Ranch Station Casino. During his six-year stint with Station Casinos Inc. (STN), Fiumara has served as senior operations analyst and as Green Valley Ranch’s director of administration.

Gordon R. Kanofsky has been promoted to executive vice president by Ameristar Casinos Inc. (ASCA). He formerly served the company as senior vice president of legal affairs. Joining the company as senior vice president and general counsel is Peter C. Walsh.

In another announcement, Ameristar Casinos said Robert Sobczyk has been promoted to vice president of slot operations.

Thomas Auriemma is the new acting director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
