Vegas resorts turn green for St. Paddy's Day

On the Cheap by H Scot Krause | Las Vegas goes green starting this weekend! St. Patrick’s Day is always a fun holiday no matter where you live, but Las Vegas has some exciting things planned, many at little or no cost!

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend at the Fremont Street Experience brings three days of free concerts with Whiskey Galore and Wild Celts. The performance schedule is as follows:

• Saturday, March 15, Wild Celts, 6-8 p.m., 3rd Street Stage; Whiskey Galore, 9:00-11:00 p.m., 3rd Street Stage.

• Sunday, March 16, Whiskey Galore, 8-11 p.m., 3rd Street Stage.

• Monday, March 17, Whiskey Galore, 8-11 p.m., 3rd Street Stage.

Green beer starts flowing March 15 at the Fremont Street Experience. The celebration will include the iconic neon lights of FSE. All concerts are free and open to the public. Parking is available at the FSE garage located at Carson and 4th St.

Dick’s Last Resort inside the Excalibur Hotel & Casino has a fun-filled St. Patrick’s Day planned. Lucky lads, lassies and leprechauns can gear up in green and join in the celebration which features specials on traditional Irish dishes. Available are pitchers of green beer, Irish whiskey and Guinness for patrons of age. To top off the party, the talented and exciting band Panama will "sham-rock" the house with a mix of yesterday’s classics and today’s favorites, beginning at 9 p.m.

Santa Fe Station will host a "Get Lucky Party-a St. Patty’s Day Celebration," in the 4949 Lounge on March 17 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free. The evening activities include a live DJ, drink specials including free Green Jell-O Shots for the room whenever the DJ plays an Irish Jig, and "Get Lucky Charms" (draw a lucky charm from the box to win prizes) photographs taken by Lucky the Leprechaun. Party favors, beads, hats and shirts are available.

Fitzgeralds downtown will be hosting contests all day March 15 including a Leprechaun Look-a-Like contest, Green Jell-O eating contest and an Irish "Jig-off."

The Eldorado and Joker’s Wild Casinos in Henderson will be serving St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage including the All-You-Can-Eat Soup & Salad Bar for only $8.99. The Silver Nugget Casino in North Las Vegas will be offering $6.99 Corned Beef and Cabbage.

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, located at 335 Howard Hughes Center, will be celebrating the inner Irish in all of us with a special St. Patrick’s Day party March 17 starting at 5 p.m. Irish drink specials featuring pints of Green Beer, Guinness, Bushmills and Baileys will be offered. The celebration includes Irish dishes, corned beef, cabbage and Irish stew, in addition to their famous $1.95 bar menu.

The revelry continues throughout the night with live entertainment. The restaurant will also feed the city’s cab drivers with their 4th annual ‘Happy St. Cabby’s Day’ offering a complimentary breakfast of green eggs, ham and Lucky Charms cereal between 8-9 a.m. to cab drivers. If the cabbie’s stop in anytime before 5 p.m. they can pick up a special gift certificate while supplies last.

The Gold Coast is serving $2 Corona’s and Corona Lights at all casino bars though March 31.
