As the senior senator from New Jersey,
Torriccelli is expected to offer a critical ÂÂÂnational focus in a morning
keynote address. Of particular interest will be the future of gaming throughout the nation with special emphasis on the northeast corridor
including New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Following Torriccelli will be a
“Regional Roundup” panel moderated by Atty. Kenneth Jarin of Philadelphia.
Joining him will be Kevin DeSanctis, president and COO of Penn National Gaming
Inc. (PENN); N.J. State Sen. William Gormley; Michael Hoblock, chairman, N.Y.
State Racing Wagering Board; Robert Kickus, Trump Hotels 7 Casino Resorts, and
Edward Sutor of Dover Downs Gaming and Entertainment Inc. (DVE).
Expected to attract substantial
interest will be a speech by N.J. Gov. Jim McGreevey
who recently announced he was considering proposing a tax on casino comps. The
move caused officials of MGM MIRAGE Inc. (MGG) to step back from its plans for a
$1.5 billion casino resort on land it owns next to The Borgata, a property being
constructed by Boyd Gaming Corp. (BYD) in which MGG has a 50% interest.
Organizing the event are: Michael Pollock, publisher of Gaming Industry Observer; the firm of Cooper Perskie April Niedelman Wagenheim & Levenson; the accounting firm of Ernst & Young, and Rutgers University.
