James M. Sherwood this week was named associate publisher and general manager of Dirson Enterprises, Inc., parent of GamingToday newspaper and National Airlines’ Flyer magazine.

The announcement was made by Eileen Di Rocco, president of the company.

“We are excited to have Mr. Sherwood on board. His background and experience will be very beneficial as we take the business to the next level,” Di Rocco said.

A native Hoosier, Sherwood majored in journalism at Indiana University and worked as a sports writer, editor and manager for several newspapers in Indiana and Ohio. He also spent two years as co-publisher for a group of commercial publications.

Sherwood also is a veteran marketer and business executive, with nearly 20 years of experience in piloting the successful growth efforts for corporations in other industries.

A Las Vegas resident for nearly eight years, he became familiar with the gaming industry during a two-year term as president of an industry consulting group owned by local attorney and former Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission John O’Reilly. Sherwood spent the last five years as a senior marketing executive in the credit card division of a large bank.

Sherwood and his wife, Nanette, have one grown son, who is married and resides in Ohio.
