Repent out of Derby
Repent, winner of the Louisiana Derby
and runnerup in Saturday’s Illinois Derby will not be racing for the ÂÃ‚ÂTriple
The Select Stable’s contender for the
Kentucky Derby will not make the trip to Louisville after sustaining a chipped
bone in his ankle during the Illinois Derby.
Repent is scheduled to undergo surgery
next Monday for removal of the chip. In eight races, Repent had five wins, two
seconds and one third place finish.
Prognosis is for a full ÂÃ‚Ârecovery.
An 11th race added
Churchill Downs will add an 11th race
to its Kentucky Derby Day schedule on Saturday, May 4.
The move will shift the Derby from the
eighth to ninth race for the first time in nearly 30 years. The change will not
affect theh post-time for the 128th running of the nation’s most celebrated
horse race. Post time is still scheduled for 6:04 p.m. ET.
“The addition of an 11th race will
add new excitement to the celebration of America’s greatest race,” said Alex
Waldrop, president of Churchill Downs.
