Repent out of Derby

Repent, winner of the Louisiana Derby and runnerup in Saturday’s Illinois Derby will not be racing for the Triple Crown.

Repent is scheduled to undergo surgery next Monday for removal of the chip. In eight races, Repent had five wins, two seconds and one third place finish.

Prognosis is for a full recovery.

An 11th race added

Churchill Downs will add an 11th race to its Kentucky Derby Day schedule on Saturday, May 4.

The move will shift the Derby from the eighth to ninth race for the first time in nearly 30 years. The change will not affect theh post-time for the 128th running of the nation’s most celebrated horse race. Post time is still scheduled for 6:04 p.m. ET.

“The addition of an 11th race will add new excitement to the celebration of America’s greatest race,” said Alex Waldrop, president of Churchill Downs.
