Pool parties help heat up casino nightlife

The summer pool parties kick off at many casinos this month. They’re a great way to enjoy some freebies or at least a cheap night out. Here’s a rundown on a few of the upcoming pool parties. We’ll bring you more in future issues as they are announced.

The Palms has a one-day, poolside celebration for Cinco de Mayo on Sunday, May 5, from 4 to 11 p.m. The $10 admission includes your first beer or Margarita. Activities will feature music, food, specialty drinks, dancing, contests and prizes. Party hosts will be Mark and Mercedes of radio station 94.1 FM.

The Plaza staged great pool parties last summer and return this year with free parties every Thursday night from 6 to 10 p.m. The early reports indicate fun-filled nights of music, contests, prizes and more.

Terrible’s Hotel-Casino is joining the fray this summer, too. Also planned for Thursday nights, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. you can earn free admission by accumulating 5,000 slot club points in any month, or redeeming 1,500 points on the day/evening of the events. Live entertainment is scheduled with an outdoor buffet, open bar and prize drawings.

You can also make a reservation for two to join in a complimentary poolside party at Key Largo later this month. The event will be held on Monday, Memorial Day, May 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be food, fun and music to enjoy, but you must be a Player’s Club member to reserve a space. The event is a "Player’s Appreciation Party." Call 702-733-7777, and ask for the Player’s Club Booth at extension 2100.

The Orleans and Suncoast have always held great pool parties, but their schedules have not been announced at press time. Stay tuned.

New York-New York was a pool party location last year too, but they haven’t checked in yet.

For the upcoming Cinco de Mayo celebrations, check out these el cheapo specials:

Sahara: A 99-cent Fiesta Platter is being served in Paco’s Bar and Grill. The platter includes a mini-burrito, taquito, poppers and coronados. Offer is limited to one per person and is available through May 7.
