With all the excitement surrounding a possible Triple Crown winner, the Palms Casino Resort is releasing three different gaming chips featuring the legendary race horse Secretariat to celebrate this year’s race for the Crown.

The chips, in $5, $25 and $100 denominations, can be found only at the Palms main cage or at the Palms gaming tables. This is the first time a Nevada casino has featured a Triple Crown winner on a gaming chip. Talk about a great Mother’s Day gift, these chips certainly qualify.

The first chip in the series was released Friday, April 26 and features Secretariat as the winner of the Kentucky Derby. The second chip will feature the racehorse as the winner of the Triple Crown and will be released this Friday. The third chip, set to be released on Friday, May 24, will showcase Secretariat as the Belmont Sweepstakes winner.

Secretariat only raced for a period of 16 months, but in that short time he became a legend. He started 21 times, won 16 times and finished in the money in all but his first race. His storied career is highlighted by the 1973 Triple Crown. By winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, Secretariat became so popular, Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated featured him on the cover the same week.

Even today the legend of Secretariat lives on. Recently, Sports Century voted him among the top North American athletes of the 20th century. At No. 35, Secretariat is the only non-human to make the list.

The Palms Casino Resort is the $265 million boutique resort that opened on November 15, 2001. Owned by the Maloof family, the 455-room property offers an eclectic mix of restaurants and bars, the 14-screen Brenden Theatres, a 1,500 seat, multi-use entertainment venue and a 95,000-square-foot casino.
