There are two very ugly cards today at Santa Anita and Bay Meadows, but we will take a few shots, and play one race at The Fairgrounds.
No. 5, Real Lift, has won two races on the synthetic surface and has won 7 of 19 lifetime starts; she looks good coming off the claim by Kristin Mulhall. No. 3, Zee Topper, ran behind Real Lift one race back and has also done well on the synthetic surface – I will use these two in the Pick 3 and daily double.
No. 6, Dee Tee Bee, stands out with his numbers and if he’s able to run as fast in this race as he did in his last, he will be long gone. No. 1, Harlem, comes back off a layoff for top trainer Carla Gaines, exits a key race and takes a dip in class. Also, the price will be right so I will key Dee Tee Bee and throw in Harlem for the price play.
I will use Nos. 1-2-3 in this race in the Pick 3 but will tread lightly as all of them have some question marks, so there will just be two Pick 3’s and a double for $1.
Race 1: 3-5 3-5 Double: 3-5
Race 2: 6 1-6 1-6
Race 3: 1-2-3 1-2-3
No. 2, Seven Point One, just ran a great race on this surface off a long layoff, and if he’s able to run that same race or improve he should win this, although the one post is not the best place to be at the 7 furlong distance. No. 5, Looks Great, just ran behind the Seven Point One and could be right there again. No. 9, Scotty Jones, is a 13 time loser and his hall of fame trainer Jack Van Berg is still looking for his first win of 2008, but he does put up Gomez so we will have to toss him in the mix. No. 13, High Investment, has the best numbers but is a 12 time loser. He does get the best post for this one and will be well-placed for his late run and could win this race with a good set up. I will play a dime superfecta box with 2-5-9-13 and toss in No. 4, Ilikitalot, who is 20-1 but could pop with long shot jock Olguin in the saddle. A dime five horse box will cost $12. I will play some picks keying on Seven Point One and High Investment.
No. 6, Captain Sacto, has won 4 of 8 races on the synthetic surface and Rosario gets aboard for Marty Jones – I like the jockey move. No. 7, Angus, is lightly raced but Doug O’Neill appears to have him primed for a big try and he is out of the same race as the Captain. No. 10, Muscle’n Mane, lost a heartbreaker here on Feb, 22 going a flat mile, and if he’s able to clear early he could be hard to run down. The drawbacks on him are his outside post, going 1 1/16 and his 1-for-18 win record.
No. 5, Romance is Zenon, has been a hanging fool going a flat mile in his first three starts, but I believe that this 7 F. distance will suit him. No. 8, The Royals Court, will be flying late and was claimed out of his last race by the hot Jerry Holendorfer and Gomez is in the saddle – these two click at around 41%. No. 8, Polygraph, switches to the dirt and drops from a straight maiden to a 32k maiden claimer and that is a huge drop. No. 11, Parisian Art, looks like the speed in this race and could hold up better in his second lifetime start for O’Neill. No. 13, Warren’s Jack V, is listed at 20-1 in the morning line but I don’t think so. They take the blinkers off for this – his second start – and he should be right there if he improves any kind of way off his first try. No. 2, Follows None, is a 13-time loser but trainer Mark Molina appears to be trying everything in this race to notch his first win, adding blinkers Nakatani. Let’s group this mob in the 2-5-6-8-11-13 in the Pick 3.
Race 6: 2-13
Race 7: 6-7-10
Race 8: 2-5-6-8-11-13 (ticket cost for a $1 Pick 3 is $36)
No. 3, Harmony Creator, and No. 4, Gale Force Wins, appear to be evenly matched in this 1 mile race, but both will be short so we will just play a double and Pick 3 keying on both of them.
No. 5, Sexy Soldier, was scratched the other day for this easier race. He ships in from the John Sadler barn and will be hard to beat here. Play some doubles from the fourth race using the two key horses with No. 5, Sexy Soldier, in this race.
This appears to be another two horse race with No. 2, Winrwinrtrickydinr, and No. 3, Runaway Wagon. The only other filly in this race could be No. 5, Catinthepinkhat, who was pulled up in his last back in October at Santa Anita but walked off and now shows her face here for $6,250. Note that she won for 32k at Santa Anita two races back, so she does posses some speed. In this race we’ll use Nos. 2-3-5.
Race 4: 3-4
Race 5: 5
Race 6: 2-3-5
All picks were made before late scratches so always check for late changes and adjust your betting accordingly. Go
