Bet ‘Club Med’

The Preakness is four days away. What to do, what to do, what to do?

After going completely brain dead and exercising total stupidity in betting the easiest Kentucky Derby in memory, I will follow the advice of Henry David Thoreau who said the answer to life is "simplify, simplify, simplify."

If we would have all woke up Saturday morning and had no previous knowledge of the Derby participants, most of my daily horseplayers and myself would have cashed a large bet instead of ripping our tickets up into tiny little pieces and shaking our heads.

Remember this lesson the next first Saturday in May. Do not read too much into the form or listen to any of the hype. Do not try to handicap the race, just bet the trainers and jockeys. Throw out all horses from other countries and you will have a great chance of winning.

Now, for the Preakness. It comes down to four horses, Medaglia D’Oro, Harlan’s Holiday, Proud Citizen and War Emblem. I think Medaglia D’Oro will be in the perfect spot to move forward and score at a decent price.

I still love Medaglia, if Bobby F doesn’t go crazy and have his jock do something stupid. But with the greatest (J. Bailey) up in the irons I do not see D’Oro worse than second. If HH isn’t dead, he should be up in the stretch to round out the tri and super. As for War Emblem and Proud Citizen I just don’t know what to think so I will use both and hope for the best.

Remember, simplify.
