Station Casinos Weekly Handicapping Contest is in full stride, and players are winning big. The race books at Boulder, Palace, Green Valley Ranch, Santa Fe, Sunset and Texas Stations as well as Fiesta Rancho participate in the Wednesday horse handicapping contest, which is a spin-off of Sunset Station’s wildly popular Friday contest.

"Every race player that I’ve ever talked to has told me that the contest is the best, and it really does challenge the players," said Micah Roberts, Palace Station race and sports director.

Not only are players challenged, but they’re rewarded as well. The contest pays $5,000 in guaranteed cash prizes to the players with the highest bankroll. First place returns $3,000; second $1,000; third $500; fourth $300; and fifth $200.

Entry fee is $10, and contestants must make picks for the entire day’s races at Hollywood. Each player has a "mythical" $2 win on each entry. The contestant with the highest pari-mutuel earnings after the day’s races will be the winner.

There’s also a weekly bonus for the contestant whose top selection finishes "in the money" in each of the contested races. The bonus money is carried over if no one wins. Last week, Paul Balista Jr. won the $5,500 pool at the Fiesta-Rancho.

"The amount of money involved is key to the entire contest," said Brad Bryant, Sunset Station race and sports manager. "With the chance of a bonus pool carryover, amounts could easily exceed $10,000 over time."

Complete rules are posted at each race book. For more information, visit any Station Casinos race book location.
