Food & Fun meet at NYC Bar & Grill

Jun 11, 2002 1:02 AM

There’s always been a communal relationship between food and fun: one seems to enhance the other. And that’s exactly the scenario at New York City Bar & Grill, where food and fun are combined in a neighborhood pub.

Open for just a few weeks, New York City Bar & Grill (6168 W. Spring Mountain Road, 257-7034) has everything a friendly bar and grill is supposed to have: domestic and draft beers, well drinks, happy hour, helpful and friendly staff, tasty food items, and great games in the form of Gamblers Bonus machines.

The machines, in fact, play prominently in patrons’ entertainment. But more on that later.

Unlike many neighborhood pubs, NYC Bar & Grill offers much more than the standard "comfort" foods. The kitchen, which is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, features an accomplished chef who prepares daily specials and tasty menu items.

The daily specials are bargain priced ($6.95) and rival those in full-service restaurants. They include Lasagna, garlic bread and salad (Monday); Mexican fajitas, beans, rice and tortillas (Tuesday); Southern friend chicken with French fries (Wednesday); Italian surprise (Thursday); and fish and chips (Friday).

NYC also serves a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, burgers and salads. Some of the excellent choices include a delicious meatball Parmesan sub sandwich, an overflowing Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, and a tangy sausage, peppers and onion sandwich.

Among the cold sandwiches, the Italian sub (Genoa salami, ham and provolone), turkey and cheese, and tuna salad are the best.

Burger fans can feast on a Brooklyn Burger (charbroiled with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle on a sesame bun); a Manhattan Hickory Burger (served with cheese, barbecue sauce and bacon); and a Queens Double Burger (two charbroiled patties served with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, thousand island sauce, pickle, mustard, mayo and ketchup).

For those who would rather munch than dine, NYC serves tasty delights such as chicken wings and fries, mozzarella sticks, Southwestern eggrolls, fiesta taquitos with sour cream and salsa, chips and salsa and chicken fingers with French fries.

As pointed out earlier, the Gamblers Bonus machines play a significant role at NYC Bar & Grill. Especially over the Fourth of July weekend.

One Saturday night, July 6, NYC will give away a 2002 Kia Sportage in a drawing for players who accumulate entries while playing on the video poker machines. Players receive one entry for each natural four of a kind, two entries for a straight flush, and three entries for a royal flush (maximum coins and no wild cards).

Also, players will receive double entries all day Sunday.

The drawing will take place at 8 p.m., and the contestant must be present to win.

Those who are familiar with Gamblers Bonus know that players can accumulate points through their play. At NYC, if you hit a four of a kind in the card of the day, you’ll receive 20,000 Gamblers Bonus points.

And you can receive 50,000 bonus points by hitting a natural straight flush.

NYC will also give you 20,000 bonus points when you enroll a friend in Gamblers ÂíBonus.

Other great deals at NYC Âíinclude:

”¡ Happy Hour (seven days a week): Beer, $1 and well drinks, $1.50.

”¡ Play $20 and you get a free lunch, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.
