October is Oktoberfest and that means good food and cheap bargains at many of the casinos! And that’s “vunderbar!”

At the Flamingo Las Vegas, "Oktoberfest" runs daily through Oct. 31. During this month-long celebration, patrons may dine on delicious Bavarian sausages, enjoy authentic German beers, free entertainment and festive decorations, instant prizes and even get a chance to win a VIP paid vacation for two to attend the 2003 Munich Oktoberfest. The Bavarian outdoor barbecue offers a variety of char-broiled German sausages; grilled breast of chicken sandwiches with red cabbage and salty pretzels; quarter-pound all-beef hot dogs served with sauerkraut and salty pretzels; and half-pound Bavarian hamburgers, from noon-9 p.m. daily. A strolling accordion player will add to the Bavarian mood from noon-5 p.m., and then a disc jockey will liven up the entertainment from 5-9 p.m. Patrons at the Bier Haus (located at the Sports Bar) can purchase two-for-one Lowenbrau beers and souvenir glass beer steins from 10 a.m. — 2 a.m. daily. "Schmidt's Snack Bar" will offer traditional favorites, including soft beer pretzels, pickles-on-a-stick, German cheese soup, beef sausage with sauerkraut and spicy mustard on a bun, and bratwurst with red cabbage and brown mustard on a Kaiser roll, from 10 a.m. — 2 a.m. daily.

Guests visiting the Flamingo will also have the opportunity to participate in prize giveaways as part of the “Connect, Spin & Win” game being played at the resort through Oct. 31. Visitors’ age 21 and older who sign up for a free Park Place Connection card at the club booth in the casino will receive one free spin on the Connection Wheel between noon — 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Players also may receive up to five additional spins per day by earning 50 points for each spin on their Park Place Connection club cards.

There are a total of 40 prizes on the Connection Wheel, including glass Lowenbrau steins and Lowenbrau beers, Lowenbrau and Flamingo logo merchandise, $25 airline discount coupons, and two chances to spin the Bonus Wheel. On the Bonus Wheel, there are two stops for the grand prize drawing, a VIP trip for two to Oktoberfest 2003 in Germany. Other prizes include $500 cash, tickets to see legendary rhythm-and-blues singer Gladys Knight or The Second City comedy troupe, free hotel accommodations at the Flamingo Las Vegas, gift certificates for the Richard Petty Driving Experience, golf for two, a trip to San Jose, and $25 in free casino play at Flamingo Las Vegas. The grand prize drawing will be held Oct. 31. Participants need not be present to win the grand prize drawing.

In other Oktoberfest events, the Palms offers an authentic German Feast Buffet every Tuesday night in October. The $11.99 price includes all your favorite German foods, a free Beck’s draft beer and rounds out the evening with live German and ethnic entertainment.

The Silverton Hotel Casino also runs their annual Oktoberfest Buffet on Tuesday nights. The $10.99 buffet includes a complimentary St. Pauli Girl beer and runs from 4:30 p.m. — 9 p.m.

Until next week”¦”Eat well, play well, stay well!”
