New director at Shuffle Master Inc.

   Garry W. Saunders, a Las Vegas-based private investor, has joined the board of directors of Shuffle Master Inc. (SHFL).

   Saunders served as president of Playboy Enterprises Gaming Division and prior to that was executive vice president and director of gaming operations for Caesars World during the period when that company was owned by ITT Corporation.

   His gaming career began when he left as manager of Price Waterhouse & Co.’s consulting group to become president of the Sands Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

   MGM MIRAGE Inc. (MGG) announced the election of Roland Hernandez, as a member of its board of directors. Hernandez is the owner of a media holding company in Texas and most recently served as chairman and CEO of Telemundo Group, Inc., the Spanish language television and entertainment company that recently was sold to NBC.

   Michael Veitch, former CEO of Access Media, has joined (UBET) as chief marketing officer.

   Gary Loveman, president and CEO of Harrah’s Entertainment, will be the keynote speaker at the Racino 2002 Conference set to be held Nov. 6-8 at Dover Downs Hotel and Conference Center in Dover, Del.

   Edwin Edwards, disgraced four-term Democratic governor of Louisiana, will report this week to a federal prison in Texas to begin serving a 10-year sentence for extortion.

   Jon Bennett has been promoted by the Majestic Star Casino LLC to the position of vice president and chief financial officer. He previously served in a similar capacity for the company’s casino in Tunica, Miss.
