During his years of involvement with thoroughbred horses, Wall Street investor Carl Icahn became familiar with the people who put the horse racing show on the road. So he didn’t hesitate to bring Richard P. Brown into his executive family.
Last week, Icahn announced that Brown would not only serve as president and chief executive officer of his Las Vegas properties but would hold the same position in Atlantic City where Icahn operates the Sands Hotel & Casino.
Brown came to Las Vegas from New York where he was a vice president with the N.Y. Racing Association. He held positions with both Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. (HET) and the Hilton organization when that company was still in the gaming business.
When Icahn, who at the time owned The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower, needed to beef up his executive staff, he tapped Brown as his executive vice president of marketing. The responsibility also included Icahn’s two other properties, Arizona Charlie’s West and East.
In January, 2001, Brown was promoted to chief operating officer.
His position in New Jersey will be as chief executive officer of Greate Bay Hotel and Casino, Inc. and GB Holdings, the parent of the Sands.
